Giti Sponsored Formula 3 Asian Championships Wrap Winter Season
Giti Tire’s 2019 racing season started off successfully with three rounds of the Formula 3 Asian Championshipscertified by FIA. Held during January and February at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand and Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, the winter series put up-and-coming racing talents to the test in a fast and competitive environment for nine races.
Fifteen drivers from around Europe and Asia joined in the competition, filled with dramatic and exciting action. In the end, Rinus “Veekay” van Kalmthout of the Netherlands came out on top as the winter series winner, followed by Ye Yifei and Alessandro Ghiretti, respectively. On the team level, Hitech Grand Prix was the overall winner, with drivers in the first, third, and fifth positions.
This three-weekend winter championship allowed drivers to be well-prepared for the 2019 Formula 3 Asian Championship regular schedule, which includes 15 races in five rounds of competition in Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, and China. Utilizing an advanced FIA single frame and engine, the series maximizes performance and talent to showcase top quality young racers.
All of the F3AC vehicles are driven by GitiCompete GTR1 tires, and branding and special activities showcasing Giti are also at each race. Positive feedback was shared by the drivers regarding the high quality and driving performance of the tires after the winter racing events. “I’ve been driving different brand of tires when racing in Europe, and overall Giti is a very competitive tire brand, especially after updates made recently”, said series runner-up Ye Yifei. “During the race, the tire doesn’t drop off if you manage the temperature and pressure well, and there is no graining or tire issues we have seen in these three rounds. So everyone seems happy with the tires’ performance”.
In just its second year, the Formula 3 Asian Championship has already gained a great reception from drivers and fans alike. With passionate young drivers, F3AC is an intense formula competition, combining performance, safety, and car racing efficiency. Most importantly, the series provides great opportunities for the future racing leaders of tomorrow to shine and advance through top competition – paving the way for potential future driving opportunities, such as Formula 1 and Le Mans.
